2018 is inching closer and although an end of year reflection post is more than likely coming in December, my birthday this week is another great reason to think about what happened over the past year, and it was nothing short of a whirlwind.
Some people are not “birthday people” and I’m quite the opposite, I think it’s so important to celebrate yourself, because more often than not, we’re so busy and caught up in keeping up that we neglect ourselves the other 364 days of the year. Although deemed “The Jordan Year” and referred by some (like the credible source urbandictionary.com) as your best year, it’s safe to say it wasn’t. On the flip side, the more I think about it, it was such a growing year for me that even-though everything didn’t line up the way I might have liked, I got a lot out of it. I’ll admit, I went into 23 with high expectations.
I thought I’d be in a different place in my career, I thought after a moderately consistent effort to date, I might have managed to be holding down a relationship by now…. but neither has been the case. Like I mentioned in my post about time, the old me might be crushed with the realization that my deadlines weren’t met, but the “older” me, is almost laughing at the thought saying “nice try, TW.”
This year of 23 has taught me that just when you think you’ve got it all together, there’s always a challenge ready to greet you, which is perfectly fine and honestly, necessary. Comparing my circumstances in work, relationships, and wellness is not where I should have been concentrating my efforts. Even though your birthday is just a day on the calendar, I love that it can mark change and a new way of thinking, much like a new year can bring.
So I’m very grateful that I got to learn that lesson this year. Even though I might have wanted to fast forward to more ideal circumstances, it’s the growing pains that are going to make the reward so much sweeter.
Looking forward to seeing what 24 has in store! Hoping everyone has a wonderful and safe Thanksgiving. I’ll be back next week with lots to share including travel guides, gift ideas and more!
